i gave a 1979 gmc k1500 high sierra and i want to put a diesel in it im stuck between a 7.3 Powerstroke or a 12 valve Cummins but in not even sure if a diesel will fit i have a built 405 but i want more power please help me out anything will help

I personally say the 12 valve cummins. What year? Also, it will fit, but your half ton will need some frame work up front. You also will need to replace: front suspension components, transfer case, transmission and the front axle. I would search for a 3/4 ton, and sell the 1/2 ton before you do a swap if you want to save some money.

Assuming you want something without computers and fully mechanical (otherwise I would say Duramax all the way), then get a 12 valve cummins, it'll definitely fit i've seen it done before, but as BigWes said you may need to do some front suspension mods to handle the additional weight.
