just wondering what you guys prefer manual or "stick" (as some americans call it) or automatic.

personally i drive manual i learnt on a manual because i was always told manual makes you a better driver because you always have to be focused, if you dirve an automatic you occasionally get bored and your mind starts to wander and that's how accidents happen. I also find shifting gears to be really fun, i find driving an automatic very repetitive, it's like driving straight doing nothing else, only thing that frustrates me with manual is when i drive a friends car, every clutch is different and it takes a while to adjust

Please post your opinion and what your drive below.

The past two cars I have owned have had manual transmission and I find it a lot more fun to drive.

Sometimes I wish I had an automatic but for the most part, driving a stick brings a lot more enjoyment. It sucks to learn but once you have it down, it's like 2nd nature.

It depends on the application really. If it's a old school hot rod then for sure a manual, but if this is a work truck and I'm hauling a big load or a trailer manual would be a piss off.

Auto is nice when you're sitting in Tampa traffic for hours at a time, but I prefer manuals for the experience. They're a lot more fun to drive, for sure.

It doesn't really both me on either, automatic can be boring but at the same time I love both. My '13 Focus ST is fun to drive but not in traffic but my '98 Mustang GT is always fun to drive.

Do people in the US mainly learn to drive autos?

I'm from the UK and learnt to drive manual.

The only automatics I've driven in are an Ferrari 360 and a Lamborghini Gallardo. However, these were semi autos that used flappy paddle gearboxes.

(trackdays ;) )

My first vehicle was going to be a little Ford Ranger. It was Manual, but my mom didn't get me it because she didn't want me to start out on it. So I have an automatic. I want a manual so bad, sometimes I get bored when I have a coke bottle in my cup holder and I act as if it's a stick.
