Since this is the new place for car discussion, I thought I'd post all of the pics I had in the old sticky. We picked up the car back in August 2013 for $3000 which was a pretty good deal since it's a 400. It has the stock 1UZFE engine and came with some pretty destroyed 18 inch wheels. The person had to have hit every curb in town or something... The wheels are staggered with 9.5 in the front and 10.5 in the back I believe. Gas prices will be the end of me. $80 fill up is not cool. We've had to do some work since then as later talked about in this post. I'll be updating this post whenever I change something on the car or make additions. I'm so mad at myself for not taking pics during all of the engine work. Nothing I can do now.


When I first got it (August 2013):

These were from August 2013 or so when I first bought the car. It's a 1995 Lexus sc400, all stock with the original 1UZFE engine. Here are the first pictures I took of it. You can't see it very well but there is a patch along the front bumper that we have still yet to remove. We assume there is a fairly long crack along the bumper cover and figure it probably looks nicer as it is now, with the front Lexus plate over it, than it would if it looks like I rear ended something. Look at some later pics to see what I mean. I want to find a cheap '97 front bumper since the body style changed that year but I'm still looking. The badges were also really nasty so we scraped off the bronze paint and they look like new chrome ones. That saved some money right there since we didn't have to replace them.

Since we picked it up, here is a list of things we have had to change out or fix:


    1. We sand blasted the wheels and got them down to bare metal and sanded the outside really well to remove a majority of the curb rash. We then primed, painted it, and clear coated them and they looked a lot better. They are still missing center caps. I ordered some from a factory in china weeks ago but I feel that they messed up the order because they only sent my my valve covers and I think they were supposed to ship together...

    2. After we did the wheels, before we put them back on, we went ahead and painted the brake calipers red.

    3. Shortly after we finished all of that, the started went out...... And thanks to the brilliant minds of Japanese engineers, the starter is right in the middle of the engine block and half of the bolts are in random places that make it very time consuming to remove each one. We removed the whole top part of the block and installed the new starter that I think we bought from Autozone. We did that all in 3 days or so and got the car running again. Though just to make life a little more difficult, when re bolting the intake manifold, one of the bolts decided to break in half and get lodged into it so we had to take it all back off practically and install a different intake we got off an LS400 at a junk yard. There are still a few things that are in need of replacing that we have yet to get to. I.e. most of the vacuum lines. When we do that, we'll probably get silicone ones. I think it will cost between $50 and $150 to do them all, or most at least. Not too sure on the prices of them.

    4. The right passenger window wouldn't go up and down so we just recently fixed that. After taking both door panels off, we discovered that there was a clear wiring issue and the previous owner had spliced the rf power wire to the door to ground it. This made it so it wouldn't go down. They did that because in order to put it back up, it has to be ungrounded, but then it won't go back up. If you have it ungrounded and try to put it up, the whole switch box starts smoking... We experienced all of this first hand. Once we figured out that half the wires coming from the the lf master switch were broken in the door jam cross, we spliced them back together and the window worked fine. We now have an extra window motor we picked up from the junk yard for back up I guess.

    5. Hmm what else... My power antenna mast is currently split so it doesn't raise up and down. We just recently found that out so I just need to order a new one of those and that issue will be fixed.

    6. The windshield had a chip in it but since I live in Florida, Safelight replaced that for free. That was pretty cool.

    7. JVC KW-NSX600

    8. Interior Lights from LED Glow. They look pretty cool in my opinion lol.

    9. If I think of some more, I will add them to this list.



Future additions list (With price estimates):

    1. Retint all of my windows. They currently have the purple fade going on and look bad. ~$150-200

    2. BC or PBM coilovers ~$1000 (Air is far to expensive, finally came to reason lol)

    3. Replace vacuum lines ~$100

    4. Rear window visor ~$80

    5. 97+ Sides ~$200

    6. Rear Mud/Splash Guards ~$50

    7. Need to replace the intake. OEM ~$75, cold air ~$250




Total Expenses thus far:
    1. Car: $3000 cash
    2. Engine stuff: ~$300
    3. JVC KW-NSX600 w/ harness': ~$310
    4. 4 piece 7 color interior lights: $42
    5. Center caps that china scammed me for I guess with valve covers: $13
    6. OEM Lip: $50
    7. Timing Belt/Water pump, rotors, accessory belt: $300
    8. Spark plugs and wires: $100
    9. Window Visors: $22

'65 Barracuda in the garage. Needs radiator, brake lines, and couple tires and it should be drivable I think. Not sure why we stopped the build...

Thanks for the time man haha. Yeah it was definitely worth it, I need to add in there that I need to change my timing belt. It's getting a little off track because the tensioners are becoming weak or something. Who knows the last time that was changed.

Thanks man! The lights were only $42 with shipping and install is all based on preference. The way they do it in their install video takes like 10 minutes but I ran the wired through my center console so mine took like an hour because I had to take all that off and put it back on. There are a few ways to actually put up the lighting tubes. You can screw them on with the screws that come with it, zip tie them to any thing like open wiring harnesses, or use adhesive. It doesn't matter which way really unless you enjoy laying on your floorboards I guess. I used 3M adhesive tack where you rip off a small amount, roll it into a ball and then stick it to the the tube. Then the tube where you like it. I'll take a few pics tomorrow of it if I remember. They sell a really handy cigarette lighter adapter so that you don't have to run a wire to your main fuse box. That's why I ran it though the center console so I don't have wires everywhere and it can store in my little compartment with out being noticed when I don't need them.
