Obviously you haven't had photoshop for more than a few days. There's no way to rate or give feedback on something like this. It seems like you looked up a tutorial on youtube, and used everything you saw in the video in one picture. Making things like this won't get you anywhere. Try to use some of the many tools that photoshop has to offer, and try to work on some projects for practice. And try to be more clean with your work, no one likes to see an ugly mess like this. Maybe look at some of the work more experienced designers have made, to get some ideas for yourself.

I know he said be honest, but you don't have to bash him like that... Give him some advice, help him out, do something that will make him a better GFX artist rather than sitting here and bashing on him about how horrible it is. And btw its not to bad for a beginner (i couldn't do better than that lol) since you're a beginner i'll have to give it a 6.5-7. Don't worry just keep practicing and you'll eventually get better!!

So what he said is rubbish.

Making things like this won't get you anywhere
1 - Creating your own patterns
2 - Textures
3 - Blending options

Try to use some of the many tools that photoshop has to offer, and try to work on some projects for practice

Patterns
Textures
Text Tool
Blending options

I dont see the point in that sentence

And try to be more clean with your work, no one likes to see an ugly mess like this

I have seen worse from more experienced users.
This user has kept the texture toned down, the scanlines are far enough apart to not be horrific.
The colours are simple and not a spectrum of crap

Maybe look at some of the work more experienced designers have made, to get some ideas for yourself.
First you tell him to the learn the tools then you tell him to check what experienced designers do??

Mawding this may not be a masterpiece, but its also not a complete failure.
What our educated friend above forgot to mention was placement.
Your text would be better suited in the centre of the image.

Keep plugging away with the tutorials and learn the many techniques that are out there.
Once you get comfortable, push yourself with something a bit more out of your skill range.

It's pretty basic, but you can do a lot of good work with in the background if you use the diagonal lines in the correct way. I'm not a big fan of the font you used as its to bulky for the dimensions.

But a good start pal.

edit: I'd put less spacing between the lines so it meshes with the foreground.

I thought I was giving some ideas..

I'm not trying to bash on anyone, but I'm not trying to be delicate either. I was be assertive with him, take it as bashing or whatever you want. In my own opinion, I was being honest.

You're acting as though I was absolutely trying to hate on his work.
And I'm not, looks like he's got potential. And maybe my advice wasn't very clear to you, or wasn't want you thought. But don't go and try to be a hero and try to correct everything I say, it's quite annoying honestly. You've got some good advice for him I can see, and maybe you've got more experience than me on things like this. But don't go and try to humiliate me. I think some aggression towards someones work will only help them improve. And he's got a lot of improvement to do, but obviously we can't see eye to eye on the things we say.
