How does the headset sound? Is it worth the buy while using the Kinect as a microphone or should I wait until Astro comes out with a better headset? Thinking about the Astro A50. $249.99 at Best Buy, $199.99 refurbished on Amazon. Also, A40 or A50?

You have two options for chat right now which is the kinect or you can use the regular xbox one headset around your neck and talk through that.

I think that the A40s are better for a few reasons. The mixamp is a lot better quality, $50 cheaper, a little more lightweight, mic is detachable and can go to either side.

Also you can get the A40's refurbished for $179 on amazon, great deal. They are checked over and there are no problems with them, they just can't be sold as new since they were sent out to a customer and then returned. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

About the chat, microsoft is supposed to be releasing a chat adapter in early 2014. You will be able to buy one of these (guessing under $10) and use that with your astro's for chat. I don't think Astro will be releasing new headsets within the next six months.

Awesome, thanks guys for the info! So, they sound good on the Xbox One too? As you all may know, the Xbone doesn't support 5.1 Dolby Digital yet, but it's said that the mixamp decodes the standard stereo sound & turns it to 5.1 surround. In all honesty, the fact that the A50s are wireless is why I'm going with them. I honestly hate being bound by a cord, especially when watching movies around the house. Sure, the A40s are the gold standard for competitive gaming, but I won't be going competitive anytime soon, lol. Who knows? I may end up buying them both, haha.

I have the A50 Wireless'. I use on my xbox one all the time and if i need to talk I use the kinect as I can hear people through the astros. Plus, Microsoft announced in the new year they will bring out a headset adapter for chat only.

I have Astro A40s and they're amazing! I'd wait though because I heard they were coming out with 2014 edition A40s.

People say the A40s are better than the A50s? The pros use A40s so that must say something.
