Yeah might have a dig around some actual news sites to see if its true.

I am never going near a python! Or going to India for that matter...

Snakes have very strange mouths.
Their bottom jaw can actually split in half and they have a short bone between their lower and upper jaw bones at the back of their mouth, which lets them open to a full 180 degree angle.


Most of the time they can't eat people because the person ends up lying on their back or front.
The snake can fit their mouth over the head, but the shoulders get stuck on the outside of the mouth.
If he fell on his side, the snake could get the head and shoulders all in one, then the rest of the body would just slide in without much resistance.

Imagine trying to get a plank of wood through a door, if you have it on the side it isn't going through, but if you turn it straight, it'll go in.
Substitute the plank with the shoulders and the door with the snakes mouth.

Given that this is a single death and not in a western country, I wouldn't expect to see this on any big news websites, so, It could very well be real, it's certainly possible.
