i am sixth prestige i just unlocked the seventh squad member and i didnt go to 7th prestige can anyone help?

You need to rank up to get to 7th, you can't just magically prestige like that.
Unless you are getting modded xp ;)

Don't you have to level up that person to max and then it changes to seventh prestige?

You can't just prestige for buying the squad member, You can't skip to a prestige if you buy a higher character either
