Are you sure you done this properly because 100% works, i would find a car and just do it with that if you are low on money.

When I go to the swap characters menu and back out it brought me to single player and now I lost my bike and can't sell fr 45 minutes...

Yes you have to press A when it shows your character, hope it helped.
