School is rather unimportant to me in a way.

I mean they should teach you the basics of how to read and write, and other things of such sort. And after a certain point they should teach you things that relate to subjects you are interested in. But i guess we call that college

Cygnet wrote I personally disagree ALOT.

From the hard up and downs my 9th and 10th grade years, and not learning anything, I only now realize how important school really is.

You will say school is not important, but how will you provide for you family? How will you provide for yourself?

Jobs look at your high school record, and if you didnt do anything because "schools not important" than they wont hire you because they will think you will act the same way about your job/career.

My brother barely finished high school and is now delivering pizza's, and hes 26 and still lives at home.

No collage would take him, hes screwed for life because he half assed it in high school.

Thinking about the military road? But oh thats right, schools not important and you just dropped out. Think again, most military branches aren't taking GED's that much anymore. Hell, the Marines dont even take GED's..to get in you have to actually try and graduate with decent grades.

School is very important. Unfortunately I only found that out now, when Im in 11th grade. I wish I would have did better and didnt think like you do years ago, because now im only realizing my future is ****.

Oh and dont think that you will turn out to be one of those geniuses and will create something amazing and be a multi billionaire, because you wont. Its the hard truth.

Dude, your attitude is awful. Quit comparing your brother to others. Education is very important, but basing your life off of a diploma is a huge joke.Quit being so **** dependent on society to make something of your future. Create your own job(s). Do something that you love and excel at it. I went from no job, to make a hell of a lot more than people of my age by doing this exact thing. Successful people will always tell you this same thing.

"Oh and dont think that you will turn out to be one of those geniuses and will create something amazing and be a multi billionaire, because you wont. Its the hard truth."

It's funny because that's exactly what they were all told. Also, you have no idea what you're talking about. It's quite hilarious seeing idiots like yourself post such ignorant statements.

This might be one of the most idiotic posts I've seen on this thread.

School is needed. while it crappy as hell we learn useful crap such as, proper use in grammar being doctor and so on. Blame 21st that we need school to get a job. Your ideals would only work in the pass. Logic and knowledge is diff my friend. I do agree keep formal education to limit.

triksta2k11 wrote Have you ever thought about what you actually learn from school?
About when and why you would use trigonometry and algebra?
About WHAT they actually teach you?

The thing is, education is important, right?
Well you can get education from other sources!
You can educate yourself by learning from your mistakes, from nature, from thinking about things deeply, from other people or from your past etc...

Fair enough, school can make you smart! But can it make you wise? There's only so much a school can teach you... Life and nature and experience will make you wise.

Some of the richest and smartest, most successful people in the world left or didn't even attend school! So is school really that important? I don't think so

Yes, however the richest and the most powerful attended school. School is a compulsory act not only in actually teaching the generic terms such as math, science, English, but also people grow up in school. School equips students with life long skills nature, mistakes ect wouldn't teach you. Besides, learning from others is them schooling you.

As for what algebra and trigonometry teach you, solving and puzzle what so ever is algebraic. Working out percentages, surds, anything is math related.

As for your final point, you claim some of the richest, smartest and most successful people in the world didn't go to school, I urge you to look at the first word you used. Some. 99% of people who don't go to school will not end up like that, the lucky 1 in 1million man//woman will come up with the next big thing, Bill Gates with Microsoft, Mark Zuckerberg with Facebook - both studying at Harvard, both drop outs, so really they were well educated and wanted to go to school.
