'The Experience Machine' is a thought experiment.
Imagine a hypothetical situation in which there is a machine that can create any reality you desire, your perfect reality.
You can connect to it and never know that you are in a fake reality.
You will simply live the rest of your life in a simulation of your choice.

Would you want to live your perfect life in a simulation?
Or would you rather stay connected to reality and the truth, as subjective as that may be?

I haven't posted in here in a while >_>

OT: I would rather live my life in reality and as it is. I know the truth of things can be hard on people but I would rather have that than living my life a lie. Living your life in a perfect simulation would seem like you're giving up on the life you have now to go and live in a fake life that is all made up and just a whole lie to escape the truth. I know you would be unaware of the process but still I would rather be living things out as they are now.

As unfortunate as it may be, I would have to choose reality.

Living a perfect simulation, a situation in which you have always dreamt of, being able to live these dreams at all moments of the day? As good as this sounds, that is no life for anybody to live. This would be no existence for anyone.

No matter how hard life can be at times, living nothing but these simulations would be amazing to begin with, but this would become boring and repetitive. The flow of modern life that you take for granted, the ups and downs, would be completely amiss, as life is nothing without both the ups and the downs. If your life is nothing but ups, what do you have? In my opinion, nothing. What gives life it's flow is both he ups and downs, and as strange as it sounds, if you were given nothing but ups, you would most certainly begin to miss the downs.

What previously you would have been dreaming about was this perfect life, would swiftly change into a dream of what you had previously, as what this simulation would have previously given you would have been a perfect life, would quickly change into anything but.

I'd honestly rather live my desired life. There are things that have happened that cannot be undone and there is no point to try and change things. In the false reality I could go on living with no memory of the horrid past and live peacefully. I would leave my memories because ignorance is bliss.

For the few people on here that read, I suggest reading the Pendragon series by D.J. Machale. In one of the books it brings this situation to light. It's a great book series. Kinda like Harry Potter, but way better( I am a huge fan of HP.) I suggest non-readers to read the book series as well if you are up for a ten book challenge going through time AND space, as in not just on earth, but whole fantasy worlds where you can dive into(literally in one world).

This would be a good invention but i'd rather live in my desired life than rather live my life in a simulation.

This is a very hard choice for me. I think I would choose reality if I truly felt I could either change the world or even just help someone that was struggling with life themselves. If I didn't feel that way, I may choose the simulation. You already know that I see no real purpose in life as it is, but there is zero purpose if I can't help people. If there is no purpose, why not stay entertained/happy in a perfect simulation? I mean, I would never be in a position to hinder anyone, and I can be happy. It's a win/win really.

I'd personally rather live in reality. The mystery of life is much more entertaining than being able to predict a perfect life.
