OK I have 1 question before I get to the main one:
1. Is the Xbox 360 slim hard drive an SSD?

If so this is my plan:
Take the hard drive bay out of my 360 and put it in my gaming PC. Its cheaper than a regular SSD that's why I want to.

Main question: will this work or can it not be formted for windows use?

It's not an SSD, just your standard laptop harddrive basically.
Once you get the HDD out of the case you can plug it up, format it, and use it as a regular drive.

All Xbox HDD's are Physical Hard Drives. In practice, everything all looks good to go to just switch over to a SSD, however I have looked into this before and as far as I can remember I don't think the xbox will play nice with it.

Yes. Read my above post. They both use SATA connectors, however the xbox is not able to utilise an SSD as far as I know. If people had of just typed "Can I use an SSD in xbox" then you would know the answer.
