Five children are among seven people found dead with gunshot wounds in the Mexican state of Guerrero.

The bodies were found in a field in the town of Coyuca de Benitez, which is close to the resort of Acapulco on Mexico's Pacific coast, according to local police chief Honorio Salinas.

Some of the victims had been shot in the head.

The state has been beset by drug-related violence, and vigilante groups have formed in response.

The "self-defence groups" accuse the authorities of failing to provide security for ordinary citizens in the region.

Violence fuelled by the drugs trade is thought to have killed around 70,000 people in Mexico since 2006.

President Enrique Pena Nieto has made the fight against organised crime one of his main priorities.

He has announced the creation of a new federal police force to help drive down murder rates.

Doesn't matter how much security they have, Drug runners/Cartel will take it over and have guys on the inside in a heartbeat, They'll bribe them if they have to.

It wont matter, the Police Officers wouldn't even go to certain parts because some cartels/drug lords will kill any police officers on site.
The Police over their are threatened by the Cartels, if they do anything that will cause them to lose money or drugs the Police are risking their life and their family life.
Its sad to see how bad things are getting in Mexico

I live close to Mexico. I hear about shootings like these all the time. Each and every time you think about when the government is actually going to do something. It's almost like the Syrian war. Obviously, there are more deaths, but not by a huge margin. Mexico needs to figure their police force out and get rid of corruption.
