What Linux OS would be best for someone looking to learn computer language? I.E. Computer Programming? I have read RedHat is the best, but i have also read that Fedora and Debian are a contender. Can anyone give me some info on which is better? Or any others that you would recommend?

I would say ubuntu is the best linux distro its fast easy to use its great for all your programming needs i have used it for over a year now and i have no problems with it. ubuntu is debian based so it does use the .deb

you can download ubuntu here [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
make sure you download the latest version which is version 13.04
if you are on windows they have a installer its very simple to run it from a dvd or usb if you need any help just message me

ubuntu also has the biggest community in the linux world so if you need help with anything its very fast

with ubuntu you also have the ubuntu software center its really easy to use and since your going to be programming you can easly upload your projects to the software center it will not cost you anything to do so. you can price it as high or low as you want. i just got my game on the software center 5 days ago and it is my very first game ever so its really simple its made in c++ with sfml its free and i have 92 downloads so far (:

EDIT: fedora is a community version of redhat linux.
also if you want the windows 7 style then i highly recommend you try linux mint cinnamon edition [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Ubuntu is most definitely not lightweight on resources and is the slowest of all Linux distros. OP if you're knew to Linux I'd say use Linux Mint (lelelelel), but if you're more experienced, try out CrunchBang. As you can see on the right of the pic, it's currently consuming just under 140MB of ram. Beautiful.
