hi, im thinking about buying the asus crosshair IV formula motherboard. its currently around 120GBP to buy. ive found one for 60 and i was wondering if its worth buying. its 2 years old and the one im looking at is used but in great condition. would it be worth getting

you're better off getting a motherboard that supports haswells because its better for upgrading in the future

yeah thats what im thinking, its 2 years old so theirs bound to be somthing it wont be able to cope with very soon but i thought 60 was a steal aha

ASUS Crosshair boards are AM3+ i believe...

The Crosshair IV is AM3 so the best CPUs you could use with it would be the Phenom IIs like the 1100T and 965. They're good CPUs but since they're so old at this point, the 965 is only worth considering as a budget option.

EDIT: Just saw the price, though. That's about what I'd pay for a good AM3+ board for use with a 965 with the intention to overclock it. It's a decent choice is you'll be getting good cooling but AM3 is a dead socket. I still wouldn't suggest buying it.

I have the phenom x6 and my mobo is dead which is why I need a new one. Not really In a financial position to upgrade the CPU also

You could get this and have an upgrade path for your CPU with an AM3+ socket.

Are you using more than one card? There are a bunch of other good, reasonably-priced AM3+ boards, too.
