I think it will end very carefully.

since i have done astronomy, i think that our galaxy (The Milky Way) and the Andromeda Galaxy will collide and create a new galaxy, causing all types of life to be wiped from both galaxies if there was anymore out there but that would take millions and millions of years :}, but thats just me :p

In relation to life on Earth ending, I can see a natural disaster occurring on a monumental scale, much like the event that resulted in the almost complete extinction of the Dinosaurs.

In relation to the Earth itself being destroyed, a rogue planet impact could occur before the Sun expands in 5 Billion years, however, [If Euler would like to clear this up], I'm not sure whether that would result in the complete destruction of the planet, or simply the scorching of it.

Humans will eventually use enough fossil fuels and rid the earth of them. And we will eventually have burned the atmosphere up.
