it means someone bought you gold and you get everything a person who bought gold gets

It means someone gives you Gold. You get more features and you're able to do a few more things with Gold.

If you are gifted gold you basically get 1 month of free premium, (other person has to pay for it).

Gift of gold is: A user buys another user 1 month of premium for $5.97.

Basically what they said^

Since no one really told you what gold is, it a premium membership that you have to pay to get in to, you do get some more features like signatures, mottos, colored name, and also a forum section specific to gold members only. You also help the site admin
