Is it possible to take the fan off my CPU cooler, iv had a look at it but there's not obvious screws, I can take it off the motherboard but can't separate the fan from the heat sink. My computer is a Dell Studio 540 desktop.

If anybody could help me that would be great:)

There's a reason you can't do it...for one..it would not start up..but if it did..the CPU would get extremely hot and auto shut-down its self so it does not die instantly.

Generation is right. If the cooler is faulty just replace the whole thing, the smaller ones are very inexpensive. Although knowing Dell they have probably found a way to prevent you from doing so.

No no no, i just want to take the fan off so i can replace it with a quieter one you misunderstood what i said completely my computer works fine. All i want to so is take it off!

chances are you cant. just replace the whole cooler with a quieter one
