Well, first of all, i'd get some other opinions on the GTX 680 vs 7970, but I would go with the Gigabyte because it has 3 fans, more cooling option.

7970 is cheaper and a better performer.

Opinions don't overlook facts.

The only time an Nvidia card would be a viable option is if you're needing the CUDA technology and/or like the adaptive v-sync feature ( which is actually pretty cool ).

Without getting any other information, suggesting a $400 video card may be pointless since there is going to be hardware bottlenecks like a insufficient quality power supply or an outdated CPU.

Physical video size of the monitor does not mean anything. It all has to do with the resolution.

A GTX 670 will be able to run BF3 on a 80'' 1920 x 1080 TV just as fine as it'd run it on a 21.5'' 1920 x 1080 monitor because it's pushing the same amount of pixels. It just happens the 21.5'' has more pixels per inch since it's smaller and more compressed.

It depends on your case setup that'll narrow the range of video card choices. Some coolers with multiple fans will blow the hot air coming off of the GPU core directly into the case its self and if you don't have adequate cooling this can and will be a problem really fast. Other cards will exhaust its heat into the rear of the card and out of the back - it's a popular choice in small form factor machines and is common in ITX enclosures due to the insufficient air flow that you may or may not have. Again, specifics is key.

Why would you downgrade? Keep those 6950s.
