Should I buy an AMD 8 core processor (AMD fx-1850) or buy a core i7 (i7-2600k/i7-3770S)/core i5 processor(i5-2500k)? I was leaning towards the AMD but i don't know which one to pick.

i5 3570k/i5 2500k, not AMD at this point in time their FX series is terrible for gaming gets owned by an i3. Both of the i5s are good I'd go with the one that's cheaper because they have roughly the same performance.

I've been using intel for a long time, they're better for gaming.

Personally I prefer Intel. For example an intel pentium will destroy any AMD processor of the same specs.

I HAD the AMD Athlon x3 in my HP, and the only reason I bought it is because I couldn't afford an Intel based computer. 1 year and 10 days later, they processor burnt out. Dead. Laptop 100%. It would have cost me more to fix it than I paid for that sh*t heap (excuse my swearing).

I'm slowly buying components for my new desktop computer that I'm building. I'm putting an i5 2500k, 12GB of RAM, a hybrid drive (don't have the money for a SSD), GTX 560, nzxt phantom in black, a standard 5.1 soundcard (nothing special) and an LG RW DL optical drive. That'll run games a decent quality, run pretty much all the programmes you'll need +more.

Don't get me wrong - AMD's aren't as bad a some people make them out. However, intel really are that much quicker. Quicker boot times by about 30-40%, handle more processing, more energy efficient, super overclocking speeds.

In all, if you have the money, for an intel. But don't get an i7 - you don't need one. The i5 3570k is fantastic. Go on r00t's topic and ask him for a build. I assure you 100% he won't ever tell you to get an AMD, and he'll build you a monster machine for a super price.

Get the core i5 2500k series.

Intel to me are better processors.

Thanks for all the replies. Right now i'm running a 2006 Dell Dimension E510 that ive maxed out in all possible ways.. except the graphics card because i feel that the Pentium D 945 and 500 mhz ram would kill me if I got a better graphics card than i have. I plan on upgrading to a new desktop, that I build, around Christmas time this year or so. I think that the core i5 seems to be the way to go; but anythings better than what I have.

INTEL mos def
but they would both be fine for gaming
considering only about 30% of the cpu is used when gaming
its all in the GPU, budddd
