Heyo. Just making a quick review to help you guys decide if you want to buy the new headset from the gaming company, Astro. I've had the A50s for a week now and feel it has been long enough to give a sound review.

The A50 is the successor of the highly reputed A40 headset. While being very similar, they do have noticeable differences that could influence your purchase (Which the new headset will set you back $300). The headset is compatible with Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Pros:

The new Astro headset is completely wireless. The only wire that is optional is the chat cable for the Xbox 360 controller. This is made possible because of the MixAmp being built into the headset itself.

The A50 headset also comes with a slew of on-board features that the A40 lacked. The features can be seen in the following picture. The most notable, in my opinion, are the different Equalizer modes and the flip-up mic mute which requires you to just flip the Boom Mic upwards to mute the microphone.

Cons:

The only downside to this headset is unfortunately a major one. The first batches that are being sent out are plagued with mic issues on the Xbox. The cord seems to be too loose for the signal to be picked up by the headset. Sadly, my headset has this defect so it can not be used to chat.

Wrap-Up:

Not only is the A50 remarkable in sound quality, but it also exceeds in build quality, comfortableness, and features. I would rate it a 9.5/10 only because of the disappointing chat defect.

So should you buy it?

Definitely. But not right now. If you own an Xbox 360 I would advise waiting until they have cleared up this chat issue.
