I have searched around for you the common Fix seems to be Hold the home button down whilst plugging in the USB and then leave it to charge until it turns back on

Hope I Helped

If that didn't work, the phone might be shot.

Considering it is a first generation the battery could be very warn down.

Right These Are The Solutions I Have Found ..

*Hold The Home Button Down Whilst USB Is Connecting
*Change The Charger I.E to Apple Official Or to Mains Not USB
*Change Battery ( Will Involve Company if your not Comfortable doing it yourself )

Alot of the Websites that i have gone on have said they have left they're iphone on charge all night and it seems to work again others are claiming it is a hardware fault with the 1st gen iphone but i have tried my best for you other than this i dont think there is anything else i can do you

Hope i helped with the information i provided
