can you update a factory unlocked iphone like a regular iphone or will you have to do something else? im looking in to buying an iphone 4s factory unlocked.

Yes. Any iPhone is able to update normally. If it is factory unlocked then it is straight from Apple itself. It is just able to be on any carrier.

As long as you bought the iPhone factory unlocked, you should be able to update normally. Say if the iPhone was unlocked by a third party software, then updating would cause the phone to no longer be unlocked. Buying a factory unlocked iPhone is a lot of money, so I would think that through.

If you bought the phone factory unlocked from apple or trusted reseller than yes you can update it regularly through iTunes.

But if it was unlocked through jailbreaking the device then you would have to make a custom IPSW which lets it either stay on the baseband so its unlocked to keep it unlocked
