Tragic is correct Xenons are not reliable. Especialy ones with a history of RROD that do not have new BGA chips.

Nick...buddy...towel trick does not cause popcorning. Popcorning is caused when the BGA chipsets are under intense heat and the have not been properly dried out by baking them. Generally, you are only going to get popcorning from a Dark Infrared machine, such as an ACHI IR PRO SC. You can get it with hot air, but it's not very common at all, and you really have to cook the chip in order to do so.

The towel trick doesn't even reach 200C, let alone 225-240 where popcorning normally occurs. The only reason the chipsets popcorn is because they have moisture in the chip and when you are heating it, the moisture turns into vapor and is trying to escape from inside the chip, causing the bubbles underneath the wafer style layer of the chipset and separating the different layers. This, causing your wonderful 0110, 0022, 0020, and 0003 error codes. Gotta love it.
