I know it's above $50, but it's more than worth it. These perform unbelievably well for their price. They also come with a TON of extra tips, have incredible build quality, and are very comfortable.

Do you know how reliable they are? Every pair of headphones I have had break within a month or so, given they are cheap ones, but still tired of them breaking.

These have incredible build quality. The cable is extremely hardy and the jack, which is where most problems come from, is very well-built.

Check out the Ultrasone Pro 750 and the V-Moda LP2. Both are great for what he wants.

Yeah, they're AMAZING, but you'll need an amp to get the most out of them. A DAC too. I'd go with an Objective 2 and ODAC, but together those are $200+. High-end headphones take some extra hardware.

Also, what kind of music do you listen to? Also, will these be your first good headphones? You might not want to jump this far in at first.

I listen to a large range of music, going from late 60s and 70s rock like The Doors and Pink Floyd up to Death Metal bands such as Amon Amarth, Opeth, Arch Enemy and Children of Bodom.

I think they are yes, i remember having a pair of 300 pound headphones a few years back that were Sennheiser i think and they were simply amazing, but im not sure if that jump from 300 pound headphones to Grado standards is a good idea as i can see them appearing so good that i actually don't like them.
