For this, I would have to go with the either the AIAIAI TMA-1 or the Ultrasone DJ1 Pro. You will notice a distinct difference, but it isn't necessary.

For around 150 bucks, you can easily get headphones that are on the level of the Pros. If you pay $450 for those, they are just stupid. Easily one of the worst values I have ever seen in any consumer electronics market.

For 450 bucks, you can get a pair of Sennheiser HD 650s and a nice amp/DAC combo. The quality you get from this modest rig can make the Beats Pros look like the trash that they are. If you would rather have portability, the Aiaiai TMA-1s can compete with the Pros. They are small, well-built, light, and can be had for 150 dollars.

Ultrasone should be Monster's worst nightmare in the headphone market, but unfortunately Ultrasone is rather unheard of. This is becuase instead of dumping cash on marketing, they put it into research and development. Take a look at the DJ1 Pro, the Pro 750s, and the Pro 900s if you're interested. They all benefit from amping, as well.

Headphones above $200 that do not need amping tend to be a joke. There is a point where drivers need more power to deliver higher quality sound, and the Beats never reach it because the quality is still poor even at high prices.

I hope I prevented you from making a bad purchase, as all Beats are.

I'd always recommend Grados if you are listening exclusively to rock, because there is simply nothing better for that type of music. They really are not for everybody, though. They are open and have a very airy sound, have been described as "in your face," which I can agree with to an extent, and they're very simple. The housing is solid, although it might come off as cheap. Everything about them is devoted to sound quality, so they are basically just drivers. They're comfortable, very solid, versatile, moddable, and they sound incredible. For 100 bucks, look at the SR60i, SR80i, and the SR125i.

If you would rather have a neutral signature that's good for all genres and types of rock, I'd go with the Audio Technica M50s. They're polar opposites of the Grados with a closed design and a very different build. They really shine with rock, too. I listened to many different kinds of rock on mine before I upgraded, and I can honestly say they tempt me to go back to them for a bit. They're solid across the whole sonic spectrum, are very comfortable, and are built extremely well.

I say you're wrong. Because you are. It is not my opinion that other similarly priced headphones are superior, it's science and statistics. You simply can not deny it.

Koss PRODJ 100 would be a solid choice, but I think that you may benefit just as much from a pair of Koss PortaPros.

IEMs: Brainwavz M2 and M3, Hippo VB, Klipsch Image S4. I'd personally get the Hippo VBs or the M2.

Over-Ear: Koss DJ Pro, Audio Technica ATH-M50 (you can get them in the $90 range), Sony XB700s (these would be my first choice for you).

On-Ear: Koss Portapro, Koss KSC75 (same drivers as Portapro).
