How to Root Basically Every Android Phone!

Warning: I am not responsible if you Brick your phone, if you follow my steps correctly, you will not brick your phone. Please follow the instructions carefully.

Step One:

In this step you will see if your phone is compatible with this root option:

Compatible:
Acer Liquid Metal
Dell Streak
HTC Magic (Sapphire) 32B
HTC Bee
LG Ally
Motorola Atrix4G
Motorola Charm
Motorola Cliq
Motorola Droid
Motorola Flipside
Motorola Flipout
Motorola Milestone
Nexus One
Samsung Captivate
Samsung Galaxy 551
Samsung Galaxy Portal/Spica I5700
Samsung Galaxy S 4G
Samsung Galaxy S I9000
Samsung Galaxy S SCH-I500
Samsung Galaxy Tab
Samsung Transform M920
Samsung Vibrant
Sony Ericsson Xperia E51i X8
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10
Sprint Hero
Telus Fascinate
Toshiba Folio 100

Incompatible:
Sprint EVO 4G
Droid Incredible
HTC Desire GSM
HTC Desire CDMA
HTC Aria
Droid Eris
HTC Wildfire

If your phone is not listed under either of these, it is most likely compatible with this root option, if you have any doubt that this will work for your phone, feel free to contact me and i will let you know

[size=18]Step 2:

In this step you will need to get the drivers for your phone.

I will post how to get the drivers for the main types of phones:

HTC
Download the Drivers here: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Samsung:
Downlaod the drivers here: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Those are the only 2 types of Android phones i have owned, so if you have a different kind of phone that that, i recommend just searching on google, it will most likely come up

Step 3:
Here is where you will need to change some settings on your phone:
1.Get your phone
2. Go to the menu
3.Go to settings
4.Click "Applications"
5. Click "Development"
6. Click the box for "Usb Debugging"

That is all you need to change on your phone

Step 4:
This step is easy.

Just download this program: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Step 5:
This step is also easy:

Plug your phone into your computer via the USB cord

Warning: Do NOT mount your SD Card.

Step 6

This step is where you actually will be rooting your phone:
1. Assuming you have read and completed all of the steps correctly, open the program that you downloaded in step 5 (Open as administrator if you do not have uac disabled)

2. Click the Root button, and wait for the program to do its magic

3. Congratulations Your Phone is Now Rooted!

You are most likely wondering what can i now do with this rooted phone?
Go to the next step to find out

Step 7 (optional):

Now that you have your phone rooted, im assuming you are going to want to know some of the amazing apps you can now have:

Here is a list of apps that are great for rooted phones: (Some apps you must download from Google Code as the Market has deleted them, some of these also cost money, but you can most likely find a cracked version)

1. Wireless Tether: This app gives free wireless tether to your other computers and toys. (must download this from google code)

2. Titanium Backup: Back up your entire phone

3.Rom manager: My personal favorite, this app will let you install custom roms and kernels onto your phone. (Must have some experience)

4. Root Explorer: Allows you to explore files on your phone that only rooted phones can see. Great for changing startup animations.

5. Shoot me: allows you to take pictures of your phone's screen

6. Set Cpu: allows you to overclock your phone, makes your phone Much Faster. Can also set profiles for battery levels

Now, these are only some of the amazing apps you can get for a rooted phone.

It basically unlocks your phones true potential, it gives you complete access of your phone, you can then install custom roms/kernals.

Install apps that make your phone 10x better.

Trust me, its deffinetly worth doing it

I used to have an evo.

Go to google code on your phone
download z4root

then click temporary root, which will only root your phone untill you turn it off.

You can still do the free wireless tether, and a few other things

Hope this helped,

Jordan
