So i attempted today to install a red 5mm led in my guide button on my 360 controller. It have it soldered to a 3v pin AND the ground correctly. I can't get it to sync with my 360 now and the light doesn't shut off unless i unplug the batteries.. my first time so wtf?

That is normal if you hooked it to the 3v pin. In order to make it turn off you have to have it connected to a place where the battery power goes through. I have modded my xbox and the light in it doesn't come off unless you unplug the power cord from the back. So just unsodder it and find the spot closest to the battery and see if that works.
