Well, to make the story short my friend broke or $800 light and i now owe my parents $800. I am still trying to get money together so i can get a gifg for my girlfriend for christmas.

@Sly: My parents know im going to get her a gift. And i would but my friend is kinda, how do i say... poor. His parents are getting divorced and hes going through a lot. I just told him not to worry about it. Even though if he miraculously hits the loto or something he owes me some money.
@Bobby: I don't know why but i can't bring myself to not get her something. Im not going to get into my "love life" on here but shes the one for me we have been together for a while. But like i said im not getting into that.

get her the gift first. christmas only comes once a year and who knows how long you will have her. the light will always have time to be fixed

I say that you should get her the gift. You have a lifetime to pay your parents back, your parents can live with it for a short while. Just promise them that it will get done and you will do extra chores to make up for it.
BTW, what light costs $800? Is it a lamp? Or a light bulb? And how did it happen?

First off PAY YOUR PARENTS. No matter what the circumstances are pay them back. To loose their trust and confidence will hurt you in the long run, plus once you loose it, its very hard to get back. Have you worked out a payment plan? Perhaps to start with minimum payments until after Jan 1? It might help if you drew out a payment plan with coupons for your parents to show them that you are serious. A good plan goes a long way.
Girlfriend gifts
Simple gifts can be the best ones. If you are serious obout this girl, which I believe you are, try to think of something simple.
Here are some ideas.
1. Make something (things done with your hands can become very special to her. Most people don't make anything anymore)
2. Give her coupons for things she likes to do
