Why don't you just install it to the HDD so that it only has to start spinning at the beginning and not read the disc?

Yes it will work, A better idea for you is to..

Make a copy, Hotswap it at the dashboard and install it.

After it install's just use your normal disk to boot it, As the disk stops spinning and doesn't have to be read.

^^ thats what i did for myy call of duty discs, you dont even have to buy a new disc for it to work! ( using that method )
