Photoshop CS5 for obvious reasons. And all my idiot friends at school can use it so it's not that hard to make stuff with.

it depends what you want to do. Photoshop, after effects, cinema 4d, etc. etc. they are all very good...and expensive

As Insta mentioned it all depends what you are wanting to do.
Logo and large vector work would be Illustrator
3D imaging would be Cinema 4D
Photo editing and general image creation would be Photoshop
Video is another thing all together
