After getting limited details on the situation late yesterday, it appears that more information has come to light in the firing of multiple high-ranking Infinity Ward personnel by Activision. Jason West is now officially the former President/Game Director/CCO/CTO of Infinity Ward with others following.



In case you missed it, here’s what went down yesterday. First G4TV reported:

… that after several months of "tense" relations between Activision and Infinity Ward, and a morning meeting between the studio heads at IW and their corporate parent, said studio heads' whereabouts are unknown and security personnel have arrived outside of IW headquarters.

After this Tim Schafer, the head of Double Fine who’s had issues with Activision in the past, posted on his Twitter account about the situation:

"Getting mad at Activision for this kind of thing is like getting mad at an ape for throwing feces," said Schafer. "It's just how the beast communicates."

So what started all this? I mean Infinity Ward is a beast of a cash-cow for Activision right? In an SEC filing made by Activision cited a human resources investigation into "breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward."

Based on the information currently at our disposal, at least one of those employees may have included Infinity Ward CTO Jason West. It's possible Vince Zampella is the other unmentioned employee.

"This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation," read the filing. "At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company."

So someone at Infinity Ward, so far likely West and Zampella, had loose lips and didn’t do what they were told? Needless to say our first reaction was that this was overkill for Modern Warfare 2 being glitchy. We’ll update as soon as we have more information.
