So today I went to go get some quotes and do shopping around at tire shops for my new Chevy Malibu. I walk in to the first one, explain what kind of car I have, tell him I want a slight negative offset with no camber and wanna size up from 16's to 19's. He then proceeds to tell me that it won't "look good" as the car needs to be "slammed" to "pull off that look" but I know damn well what it looks like as I know people who've done it. Fair enough... I start asking about wheels and we go over some prices and the wheels were pretty overpriced. The average set of 4 was $2500. Then... he hits me with "you're gonna wanna go with a chrome or gloss finish", little did he know that I knew that would double the price and I don't like chrome or shiny finishes because they looks tacky. I explained I was looking for a flat finish and ended up finding a wheel I liked for $1100 and in my opinion was much better looking than the chrome $2500 sets. I kindly explained to him that I would talk it over and get back to him within the week, thanked him for his time and walked out.
I go to a different shop and I walk in explain what I wanted and there's the two guys sitting down, the owner and some other guy who works there. Immediately he tries to make me seems like I don't know what I'm talking about and said that I was going for a stanced look as if I didn't know that already. I told him I was looking to get prices and he asks how much I'm looking to spend. I tell him $1200 max and his side bitch goes "Ohhh that's gonna be tough. I don't think we could squeeze stock 17's on there for anything less than $1500" and starts laughing. This guy was as much of a jersey douche as you can imagine. Slicked back greased hair, shades indoors, tribal sleeve AND drives a BMW lmao. He then goes "He kid, come look at this." and shows me a picture of his "lowered BMW"... the rear bumper looked like it was seperated from the rest of the car. The fitment was atrocious and it was lowered ever so slightly and he tries telling me "That's the look you want". And I started talking to the owner a little and he told me "Come back when you have some cash for me"

Most tire shops are scamming asses who just try to get the most money out of the gullible people who know nothing about tires themselves. l

Luckily I already have a tire shop that I trusts and knows me. You just gotta find that right one.

It sounds like you have shady shops around you. Not all shops are like that but shops like these give the Automotive field a bad name!

My tire shop that I work for is definitely like that in a way that they like to sell the more expensive tire.

To make literally all your problems easier. Buy the tires and wheels you want online then take them to a shop and have them put on or do it yourself. Instead of hassling with idiots all day.

couldn't agree more, tire rack is a great website and has a ton of cheap but GOOD tires. As for your "stanced" setup as the 2nd clown said, definitely do a lot of research before you buy. I searched far and long until I found a staggered set I liked for my 335i.

well i own a truck with 35s so CLEARLY buying online is NO question. I get each tire for roughly 200-400 a tire and you normally get a discount if you buy full sets. I remember tire shops telling it wouldnt be less than 1k for a set of GOOD 35s A/Ts.

So many people have told me that but they have to be fitted for the right offset
