Ok so the first build looks more promising - I'll probably get storage from PC World (uk) as I have a gift card.

Could you explain the difference between the motherboards for the first one? What would the advantage be?

The G4560 would be fine and would be much easier to get within budget, but yes, the Ryzen 5 1400 would be the better choice since it has twice as many cores/threads. PC World are pretty poor for pricing but if you have a gift card for there, and that lets you get the Ryzen system, then it's worth it. You should try to get an SSD and HDD if possible. If not, maybe try to get an SSD now to last you a while and add an HDD later. It's easier to add an HDD later, rather than SSD and you want to get the SSD first so you can get the OS on there. However, if you can't afford both right now and really need more storage than you'd get with an SSD, you'll have to just get an HDD now and add an SSD later. It's more hassle in the future but if that's the way you have to do it, there's not much you can do.

The A320 motherboard is just the cheapest AM4 motherboard you can get, so it's not very good. It will do the job if you need to save money, but you'd be better spending a bit more for a better quality motherboard if possible. As well as the fact that with the B350 chipset motherboard, you can overclock your CPU at any point if you want. And, if you can spend even a little bit more again, you can get a B350 chipset motherboard with 4 DIMM slots, instead of just 2;

Yeah, either of those SSD's would be fine. The PNY one isn't great, but it's alright for the price. 850 EVO is pretty much the best option for a SATA SSD right now, so go with the 850 EVO if you want a better SSD, or PNY if you'd rather save some money.

As for the RX 570s, that's a pain in the ass. Stock must be a little iffy right now since they're still sort of new, and I guess they're pretty popular. This Aorus card seems to be the earliest one that will be available but it's a bit more expensive;

The 570 is basically an updated 470 with better memory speeds, so if you can find a 470, go with that. If that's too much of a pain in the ass, a 1050Ti will be fine and will let you play 1080p at med-high settings comfortably, no bother.

Other than that, check out reddit.com/r/hardwareswapuk and see if there are any RX 470/570s or RX 480/580s on there. More likely to find a 400 series card than 500 obviously. Or, you could get this R9 380;

Nah, the 3GB GTX 1060 would be a terrible option. The RX 470/570 out-perform the 3GB GTX 1060, but you can just about get a 4GB RX 480/580 for the same price as the 3GB 1060. The 6GB GTX 1060 is a good competitor to the 4GB 480/580, but I'd recommend the 480/580 instead since they would typically pull ahead of the 6GB 1060, and are often priced better.

From the looks of it though, it appears availability for all of the AMD cards is pretty poor right now. Which is a little odd. If you really want a GPU now, and don't to go with a 1050Ti, a 3GB/6GB GTX 1060 would be a fine alternative to an RX 470/570 or RX 480/580, but the AMD option would be better if you can wait.

Again, [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] could be a good shout if you don't mind buying used. There are GTX 980s selling on there for around £180, I've seen some barely used 8GB RX 480's sell there for £150, and even some R9 390(x)'s sell for under £130. R9 390(x), GTX 980, and RX 480/580 all trade blows with each other so any of those would be a good option.
