Yesterday I was on my laptop, then all of a sudden everything froze (I was skyping at the time and my friend could still see me, I could hear them etc). I assumed it'd just crashed so then I held the power button and turned it off and on again, and it launched to the toshiba logo then said 'preparing automatic repair' and then went to a black screen - still backlit.
I have tried so far -
1, windows 10 boot USB, I have tried 2 different USBs both of which I've used the media creation tool from online & the windows recovery program, however my laptop won't boot from them. I changed the boot order in the BIOS 1. Being USB, 2. HDD 3. ODD and 4. LAN
My bios is 'InsydeH20 setup utility' rev 3.7 (I think)
2, pressing F12 to enter boot menu, then selecting the USB and pressing enter, just boots up as normal and does the repair then black screen
3, from the F12 menu I can access 'HDD Recovery' (same as pressing 0 key while booting) however it simply brings me to a blue screen that says:
'Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed
Error code: 0xc0000185
Then tells me about using recovery tools on my installation media, also says 'enter to try again, F8 for startup settings and esc for UEFI firmware settings.
Retry just brings to the same thing uefi is bios and F8 also just ends up on the page
I also took the bottom of the laptop off and unplugged the ram and the hard drive and plugged it back in (w/ antistatic prot) and also changed the mobo battery.
I'm really not sure what to do as I can't even get it to boot from the USB, and the bios settings are limited.

It /was/ running Windows 10 on the latest update.

When you get the BIOS error "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed" it usually indicates a form of hardware failure, typically the HDD. In your BIOS, are you able to see what devices are currently connected? I ask this because you can check if your HDD is being detected at all.
You can create a bootable CD/USB with hardware diagnostics (I prefer Ultimate Boot CD found [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ) to verify that there is a HDD failure.

I'll try the USB a when I can get my sister's laptop in a bit, but it seems ok, has 'Toshiba MQ01ABD100 (S1)' listed next to HDD/SSD under the boot options.
