Nope, real.

Why would someone make up a story like this?

And I'm not saying that to mean, "Why would someone make up a story this horrible?" I'm saying it to mean, "Why would someone have to make up a story when stuff like this happens all around the world?"

It's like making up a news story titled, "Man killed in drive by shooting."

Because it makes them money, sends traffic to their site and all they have to do is grab pictures and make up a story which can be copied onto several "news" sites. I still believe it's a tad fishy.

You missed the point. Yes, they could make it up for monetary gain, but they didn't need to make it up.
You don't need to make up a story like this and risk your credibility when stuff like this does happen anyway.

27,000 people were killed in Mexico alone in 2011, many due to cartel violence. I'll let you look into the gruesome ways the cartels kill people. Hint: They're gruesome enough for a click-baity headline like, "Boy chopped into 6 parts."

But no, this news site decided to risk their credibility and future revenue making up a story like that. And then more respected news sites didn't bother taking the five minutes to make a phone call to verify the story and decided to risk their credibility too.

Makes sense.

I agree with you that plenty of news sites spread fake news now a days. However stuff like this happens and i doubt its fake
