Hello TTG, I am having trouble port forwarding. I log in to my default gateway and set up the port forwarding correctly, yet when I test the port in an open port checker, it says its closed. Additionally I cannot run the linux service I am trying to run. Help would be much appreciated!

What type of router do you have?
It should be fairly simple, what ports are you trying to open also? Are you sure it's not a local firewall problem?

May seem like a silly question but have you "saved" the port settings on the GUI?

As Shiv said- get on the online GUI and open the required ports. I suppose we can help if you gave us the model number of the router....
