Ehhh idk about that it would be hard to spend that much money on the core and an external graphics card for it to maybe work and work maybe some of the time. They arent really made to be used for laptops other then razor and it needs the usb-c I believe, correct me if I'm wrong I know it works with some laptops but I'm sure they are more modern ones

There are some with a usb 3.0 general connector also. That is an example and it doesn't connect to most laptops other than razer. However it's something he could look into. Personally I think he should get a new system.

I think he should build a desktop, throw an SSD in that laptop and it would be great for school. Lot of money tho, but so would buying the core, and card.

Razer core is damn expensive.

Would be less hassle and more efficient to build a new desktop PC than it would be setting up an "external GPU" build.
