I'm thinking of buying a 1070 and in doing so I would be better getting a better monitor as I'm currently using a 1080p 60hz monitor.

Would I be better getting a 1080p monitor with 144hz or a 1440p monitor with 60hz as I feel if I get the 1070 it would be wiser to choose between these two variants as the 1070 can completely over kill 1080p gaming thus making the 144hz monitor useful, on the other hand it runs games on 1440p well but not really enough to benefit from a 144hz refresh rate on this resolution.

Whats your opinion guys? Would it look and feel better with the higher refresh rate or the higher resolution?

You could easily run 1440p at 60+FPS with a GTX 1070, so you would be able to utilise a 144Hz panel. 144Hz 1080p panels only come in TN, and the majority are fairly poor quality. If you must go 120/144Hz, I'd recommend a nice IPS 1440P 144Hz monitor. Otherwise, just a nice IPS 1440p monitor(60Hz) and you'll be fine. You can overclock your monitor anyway, so you may be able to OC a decent 1440p panel to like 86Hz. Although, keep in mind you may not be able to go past 60Hz at all. I got 76Hz out of a fairly low budget 1080p monitor.
