Hands down the best budget headset, but sadly he will need an adapter for those to work on his Xbox.

Turtle Beach x12 works just fine for me and looks pretty cool for your budget.

Turtle Beach x12s. I've had mine for 4 years now and they're still in perfect condition. Not only are they relatively cheap but the quality is amazing

Id go for X12s like everyone else above. You can even buy the little adapter thing that converts it to a 5.1 surround sound headset as well.
