Toddler was dragged into Seven Seas Lagoon around 9:30 p.m. ET
Authorities are searching for a two-year-child who was dragged into the water by an alligator near Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando.
Multiple news outlets report that Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rose Silva says the boy was dragged into the Seven Seas Lagoon about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies are continuing to comb the waters, with officials saying at a news conference after 1 a.m. ET that about 50 officials are involved in the search and rescue effort. Sonar equipment was being employed, with the search to continue through the night.
"We're not leaving until we've recover the child," said Jerry Demings, sheriff from Orange County.
The child is from Nebraska, with the family visiting the Orlando area. The child's father tried to rescue him when he was pulled into the water but was unsuccessful, according to the sheriff.
Demings said he didn't believe any video cameras provide coverage for the area in which the incident occurred.
A spokesperson from Disney said the company was "devastated by this tragic accident," and providing support to the family and law enforcement.
Last week, the body of a 72-year-old man was recovered from an alligator near Lakeland, Fla., about 70 kilometres southwest of Orlando.
It was unclear if the man drowned or was killed by the reptile.

whats even sadder is that 4 innocent gators had to die just to recover the kids remains, absolutely disgusting.

Makes no sense.
So an alligator, who can produce 3,000 lbs of force with its jaws, dragged this small two year old boy (obviously with it's mouth) and drowned him without anybody stopping it or the boy having even a mark on him? No bite marks or blood?
In a real situation, the alligator would have torn this child to shreds and any father would jump in to give their life for their own child. The fact that the father was unable to retrieve his child and seem to have just stood and watched as the alligator took his child away is unbelievable to me.
The parents are also comforted by the fact that their child drowned to death as opposed to being killing by the alligator, yet drowning is considered by many to be the worst way of dying.
Of course I feel terrible for the family but the facts don't add up in this story. The water was not deep, the father and mother should have been able to follow the alligator.

You only need water a few inches deep to drown in, which the water was obviously deeper than that.
As for not having a bite on him, that's not surprising. They have soft mouths when they want to. Some carry their young in their mouth.

You only need water a few inches deep to drown in, which the water was obviously deeper than that.
As for not having a bite on him, that's not surprising. They have soft mouths when they want to. Some carry their young in their mouth.
I'm not saying he couldn't have been drowned, it just make no sense. The father attempted to get his child back (supposedly) meaning there was a struggle off some sort and the alligator had his teeth presumably around the boys clothes, yet his clothes didn't rip or tear from the struggle?
Picture an alligator dragging a child. How can an alligator drag child underwater and keep him there, have such a string grip on him that his father couldn't get a hold off him and all of this without biting him?
And the alligator seems to have gently pulled the child away, won a fight with the father and then just released the boy without killing him and carried on? The alligator is used to fish and not humans, in its eyes the water does not hurt anyone and he didn't kill the boy.
Either the boy's body was severely hurt or the alligator didn't get him. It's also strange how the mother stood back and watched all this without even trying to help.
