Hey friends,

I have had this on my mind for a while now. I have been putting off upgrading to windows 10 because some of my drivers haven't been supported. Now, I just bought a new motherboard to upgrade my CPU and it does support windows 10. Is there any real benefit to upgrading to windows 10 from 8.1?

Edit 1: My GPU drivers are for 8.1 this is why I haven't upgraded. If I do upgrade to 10, what will happen?

Windows 10 has proper DirectX support which will aid gaming in the coming months, better optimisation and security. Your GPU if made by AMD/Nvidia/Intel will also support Win10 out the gate.

I've upgraded one of my old PCs to Windows 10, it was bought in 2007 and had Windows Vista, I think your PC will be just fine and W10 works a lot better than 8.1 did in my opinion. I've had zero problems using it.

There is a lot better performance on Windows 10 and it has a more Win7 feel to it if you prefer that.

I personally like the "App" style start menu so I opted to keep it like that on Windows 10 instead of using the classic start menu.

I'm going to throw my experience in here.

I was using windows 10 since it was made public and I loved it for quite a while, but after a while of using it everyday I noticed that the memory usage in the task manager would spike up to 70-80% on idle! So I was trying to work with it, but since it was like that on idle it would be even worse when playing games like GTA 5 and Battlefield. This is called memory leak. I tried a couple different fixes that worked for some people and didn't for others. I was in the group that noting worked for me. So I figured the only option I had left was to downgrade from windows 10 to windows 8.1. Right now I'm on windows 8.1 and already I notice my memory usage idling at 33%. I'm pretty sure that's what it should be idling at. At the moment I'm installing GTA 5, So I'll update this post when it's finished installing and I play for a bit on it.

I've not noticed a significant memory leak since having windows 10 from about September. Whatever problem you had must've been fixed or local only for you.
