Butthurt? k

lol @ "You can't just start throwing out components that aren't suited to OP", I mean, I've never seen you tell people not to buy things and suggest other hardware smh..

A Xeon will most likely work out cheaper if you put it against an unlocked i5 and a cooler to OC it. 8 threads > 4 threads, especially in newer games, thought that was obvious..

Not sure why you are so salty?

If OP wants an unlocked CPU, a Xeon clearly isn't going to be a fitting replacement now, is it. That's pretty much common sense.

Again, you're still putting wayyy too much significance on hyperthreading. HT has always been a benefit in gaming, why do you think their has been the i3/i5/i7 split for so many years? because it works. i5's are fine for gaming, i7's are going to squeeze out any extra performance that they can. The i5 is still better price:performance, and will still do perfectly fine. Suggesting otherwise is ignorant.

Are we talking about the 2400 overheating?

They are but your taking our examples on the forum which is an extreme case.

You've got an old CPU that overheats like a mofo. Ofc its not going to cut the mustard.

Mine is paired with a 290 that's over clocked. Im trying to max games out but CPU is having non of it. I guarantee if I had an unlocked CPU, that would all go away.

butthurt much?

OP didn't ask about Xeon's. He specifically asked whether the 4690k, or 6600k would be the better option. You can;t just start throwing out components that aren't suited to OP, since they're;
1)more expensive, and
2)locked, unlike the i5's OP asked about

If you're going to try and help users, at least do it sufficiently and stop getting butthurt 24/7, smh.

Depending on the cooler you have.

My mate has a solid 4.8Ghz overclock on hes 6600k but lives in a cold enviroment with a AIO cooler.

Every CPU is different so over clocks will vary. Plus, you might not even need to overclock.

You should be able to get 4.4/4.5GHz from a 6600k easily, unless you're unlucky. Assuming you pair it with a decent cooler, that is. I've seen loads of reports of people with 6600k's hitting 4.4/4.5GHz with a decent air cooler. You could be lucky to get a 4GHz OC though, so just keep that in mind. You'll need to get new RAM with the 6600 as well, remember. I'd suggest upgrading monitor(s) when you can, after CPU upgrade, of course.

Also will have to grab an ssd as well. I'm happy with my one monitor but use a television for 2nd monitor

Yes, the 6600k will require an upgrade to DDR4, so no, you won't be able to get a 6600k and mb, then wait to upgrade RAM.
