I am trying to connect a second monitor to my HP Envy 15 laptop but am unable to. My monitor is AOC, whatever brand that is. My laptop doesn't support VGA so I had to buy a VGA to HDMI cable. I have no way of telling if it is the monitor, laptop, or cable. When I connect my monitor a mirrored screen pops up for a minute or less then disappears saying that the cable is not connected even though the cable hasn't moved an inch.

Specs:

Operating System
Windows 8.1 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i5 4200U @ 1.60GHz 52 C
Haswell ULT 22nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 797MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
Hewlett-Packard 190E (U3E1) 53 C
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1366x768@40Hz)
Intel HD Graphics Family (HP)
Storage
698GB Western Digital WDC WD7500BPVX-60JC3T0 (SATA) 32 C
Optical Drives
No optical disk drives detected
Audio
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

I don't feel like removing the temperatures so deal w/ it.

Thanks ahead of time for any help! I'm off to work!

Goto control panel-all control panel items-devices and printers and see if you can see it there, if its not then scan for it

And/or right click desktop then screen resolution and click detect so it can try to find your monitor

It says the monitor is connected and working properly. But the monitor still says cable not connected.
