I've studied dreams and nightmares during my college thesis days. According to some of the dream experts I've interviewed, we have about 50+ short scenes that are bundled up into what we call a dream. We only remember like 2 or 3 of the most memorable scenes, we forget the rest. Some has ability to see their dreams vividly.
Other experts say that dreams are signs of what might the future bring.

I've experienced this as well. Very strong dajavu of a dream and then suddenly realizing I'm living in the moment of that very dream realizing "wait a minute... Didn't I dream about this before?". It's a big surprise but nothing alarming.
