I currently own the Intel i7-4790k..

im rubbish with CPU's, i play a lot of intensive games..a small
amount of video editing and some rendering.

GPU - GTX Titan X

whats a good new CPU to upgrade to?

x99 would be the only upgrade path.

Wouldn't recommend stop spending money!

i assume that would mean buying a new mobo to support it?

You wouldn't benefit from X99 and DDR4 Memory
why? because you won't use any more PCIE lanes that X99 has to offer and DDR4 is a marginal increase in performance which isn't worth the premium it holds over DDR3 memory.

The only way you'd benefit from X99, would be if you were doing lots of editing/rendering, on a daily basis. Your 4790k will out-perform any X99 chip in gaming, anyway and the 4790k will perform fine in editing/rendering, especially if you're only doing it now and again, or whatever.
