That is extremely hot for a 7700k you might of knocked the cooler while installing the 290 check to see if its seated correctly.


Yep just checked it. I think it is still working. So what would be the problem then?


does it feel very warm around the heatsink? it could be a false reading that does happen..

Definetely feels hot and i think i hear the fan going berserk.


Turn the computer off just check that its making contact with the cpu you'll most likely want to check the thermal paste.


I already did that and took it al off then put it back together. How do i know if the thermal paste isnt good anymore? Also this happened when i put my new graphics card in never had this problem before.


You're meant to change it whenever you take the cooler off.

Oh wow, i feel so dumb... But why is it acting up now? Not before? And can you link me a what thermal paste to buy?

hopefully I can't think of anything else making it do that and if its a false reading we will see.

Try the methods above and it could also be that your PC's CPU cant handle the GPU you've connected.

It's "acting up" if you don't have thermal paste on because the CPU and cooler aren't making proper contact. Don't turn the system on if you don't have thermal paste on. Turn it off, and leave it off until you replace the paste or re-apply paste.

I doubt a thermal paste change will solve the problem. Ive left a 6 year old thermal paste on a ps3 and put it back together and it ran fine, and this paste was all hard and cracking. ofcourse replacing old thermal paste will bring temps down a bit but not by 40c.

90c is a bit excessive to be caused only by the thermal paste if there is still a decent amount on there.

Thanks for all the help. I bought some thermal paste and a cooler master seidon 120v. So i hope that will the fix the really high temp. I bought it online, so its gonna be long a few days :p
