So today i purchased a Blue "Digital Spark" desktop microphone..

longstory short, its USB Mic, thought i could just plug in and use.

Plugged it in..nothing..no lights etc coming on and not being detected
by Deviced or in Sound preferences. (i assume because the mic isnt being detected)

Anything i can do? shouldnt it all just work if i plug it in? Manual doesnt really help.

Thanks!!6

Hmm.. Try this,
- Go to: START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL
- Double click "Sounds and Audio Devices"
- Select the Audio Tab.
- Look for the "Sound Recording" section.
- Make sure that the default device is set to the USB headset.
- Do the same in the "Sound Playback" section.
- Select the Voice Tab.
- Look for the "Voice Recording" section.
- Make sure that the default device is set to the USB headset.
- Do the same in the "Voice Playback" section.

Volume Control
-Go to: START -> PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> ENTERTAINMENT -> VOLUME CONTROL
- Select Options -> Properties
- Make sure that the default device is set to the USB headset.
- Click "Recording"
- Make sure that the "Mic Volume" is checked. Click OK.
- Make sure that the Mic is not muted and the volume level is high.
- Do the same in the "Playback" section.
see if that works.

If it isn't being detected at all, I imagine it could be a problem with the USB port. If you are using a USB3.0, double check you have the correct drivers installed to make these functional.

Try using different USB ports to see if it is detected from those. If not, have a check online to see if there are specialised drivers or software you need to have downloaded/installed first.

Check if there is anything you can download from their website, i.e. drivers or anything.
If not, I would just send it back for a replacement or refund it to get a different microphone altogether.

If it shows no sign of life at all then it is probably faulty and you should return it to where you brought it from for an exchange.

It's definitely faulty then. Considering USB ports pump out very minimal power, the microphone shouldn't get very hot. I imagine a resistor or something has blown. Send the microphone back to wherever you ordered it from. They should just send out a replacement unit.
