This is why Authy stores the secret key in the cloud so its decentralized meaning if you lose your phone you can still access authy using the desktop app or when you get your new phone recover your authy account and restore your details for TTG.

This makes it incredibly hard to lose your details on top of that we give you a panic code that can be used to totally override 2 step verification we make it clear you MUST store this code somewhere safe just in case.

The mix of Authy and the Panic code make the odds of a total lock out so slim.

TTG has adopted the policy that Apple use with 2 step and that's to not remove it from an account once its been enabled by the user as that user clearly enabled it for extra security and if we go around switching it off for people that defeats the very reason we added it.

We've made it incredibly clear how we deal with a total account lockout with 2 Step enabled but we have not set people up to fail if you follow the steps given the risk is next to none.
