So my question to you is Does buying expensive things make you less grounded in the eyes of the public?

I had a conversation with a friend a while ago about this topic and how people generally tend to think that people who buy expensive things such as cars are less grounded in the eyes of the public and are more ego centralized. Obviously, not everybody is in the same financial situations so not everyone can afford to buy expensive cars, but if you have the money for it, is there anything wrong with buying yourself an expensive car if you want to? I see this a lot with famous youtubers in the comment sections such as KSI who bought himself a Lamborghini Aventador with the money he made from his youtube fame.

Do you think that buying expensive cars is a bad thing?

Think it entirely depends on who you are as the person judging. The public isn't just a general term to relegate one uniform idea to. The public is compiled of many individuals with their own opinions and values.

I.e - Some people may look at KSI and believe he is buying a Lamborghini for status/image, diminishing his moral grounding. Others may simply look at him, and wish they had the car/money themselves.

I personally would be lying if i said i didn't want to be rich, as I believe money allows you the freedom to make choices, which is always good. However, I of course do not believe that the possession of materialistic items makes you a better/more well-rounded human being.

Well, you first ask if buying expensive things makes you less grounded, then you narrow it to cars so I suppose I will answer both I don't think so, if you can afford to give yourself nice things then there's no reason not to. Treating yourself doesn't make you self centered. There are many rich, yet humble, people who buy luxurious and expensive things because they put themselves in that spot and they can. As for cars, same applies but some do say it's pointless to buy cars like Lamborghinis with V12 monsters in them because "no one needs a car that fast or powerful". I don't agree because I appreciate the engineering that goes into it but oh well. Each to their own

I don't get why people hate on youtubers. They worked hard to get to where they are, yeah sure enough they get a lot of money now but when they first started it would have been hard. It takes talent to create videos that entertain people to the level in which you can use the money to buy a Lamborghini.

People who work for the money deserve to spend it the way they wish.

If you have the suitable income to buy expensive cars, why the hell not buy one.

They earned the money. Good for them.

If I had the money to buy a Lexus LFA I would buy one in a heart beat.

If they have the money then go ahead. What makes me mad are people with more money then my family's income is when they brag and make sure that you know, they are richer than you.
