Try redeeming it on the console, I got the same error code a few times but mine was for XBL currency not gold membership.

I got the same error a few times and tried a second time and it worked. More than likely just a little bug.

try on console it might work, other than that call microsoft and explain the problem and they will sort it out for you there and then

redeem it on your xbox or call microsoft but xbox wayy faster

I had that same problem and after a lot of messaging xbox customer service they gave me a month code and a new 12 month aswell

I would go to the store were you bought it because they probs did not varify the code.

Either you stole the card or the cashier did not redeem it properly but thats never the case 99% of the time. Most likely you found it or stolen it. Or possibly bought it on ebay for cheap or someone gave it to you for free.

When that happened to myself I questioned microsoft they mentioned that I would have to wait until my current subscription was to end (which it did after a month or so..) I re-entered it and it worked.
If you are already without subscription, I would contact them about that.
